The Civic Hall

A low concrete building in the second tier of the city, set into the rock face. Votor's office is on the third floor; the sealed book is kept in a vault below ground. Citizens deliver their votes here in person, or by Courier. The hall has no windows on its east side.

The Switchbacks

The steep western face of Slot Peak, cut into a dozen switchback paths. The Couriers' Guildhouse sits at the top. Rotor lives here, Shredder works here, and the old Turbines still gather at the Lower Switchback for breakfast every morning.

The Rooftops

Not a district on any official map. The rooftops of the second and third tiers, connected by ladders and rope bridges the city watch pretends not to know about. Gulf Stream sleeps in a hut on top of the Civic Hall. She does not pay rent.

The Velvet Parlor

Two staircases below the marketplace, behind an unmarked door. The walls, floor, and ceiling are upholstered in deep red velvet. There is one chair for the auctioneer and many chairs for the bidders. There is no window. It is the only warm room in Alpenglow.

The Outer Wall

The original perimeter wall, built in the founding. Mostly abandoned now except for Firedancer's bunker, which she built into the wall's eastern side without asking permission. From the bunker you can see all the way to the next ridge, and into the kingdom of Jump beyond.

The Marketplace

The central plaza of Alpenglow's lower tier. Open-air, snowed over half the year, ringed by stone arcades. Every trade in the city eventually settles here. Sandwich has been seen in the marketplace at least twice a day for as long as anyone can remember.
